The cost of longarm quilting varies depending on the size of your quilt and the batting and thread options that you choose. To get a free estimate for your quilt, visit our Services page and make your selections. You can see the complete price before placing your order.
We know you're super excited to get your quilt finished once the piecing is complete, so we will work with you to get your quilt finished as soon as possible. Most of the time, your quilt can be back to you within a couple of weeks, but of course, the holiday season has its own set of deadlines. Just ask us for the current turnaround time, and if you're trying to hit a special deadline, let us know and we will see what we can do!
Great question! Click here to read about how to get your quilt ready.
Yes! If you would like two different thread colors, we can work with you. Please note that it is very difficult to ensure that the bobbin thread never shows through on the top of the quilt. Tension variations from changes in direction on the pattern you choose, design elements in your quilt top, and a host of other factors can allow the bobbin thread to occasionally peek through on your quilt top or vice versa. If you always want your thread lines to appear as a single color on both the front and back of your quilt, choose the same color thread for the top and bobbin thread.
Your backing fabric should be bigger than your quilt by at least 4" on all sides so that it can be loaded onto the longarm machine. For example, if your quilt is 50" x 50", your backing fabric should be at least 58" x 58".
If prairie points are attached prior to quilting, they will be stitched down using our edge to edge quilting method. We are unable to quilt around them. This also applies to open or pocketed squares, flying geese, flanged borders, ricrac, or other embellishments that are not completely attached to the quilt top. If you plan to use these elements in your quilt, we recommend that you apply them after your edge-to-edge quilting is completed.
Sure. We have Quilters Dream batting, a wonderful batting that is made in the USA and delivers beautiful results every time available for purchase or you can provide your own batting. If you provide your own batting, we are not responsible for thin spots in the batting or discolorations in the batting that may show through your quilt top.
At present, we don't offer quilt binding services. In (rare) circumstances, we may be able to machine bind your quilt, depending on scheduling constraints. Please contact us if you'd like to talk about binding.
We currently do not offer the service of attaching labels but are considering it for the future. If you choose to attach a label, you should attach it after your quilting is complete so that the stitching does not interfere with your label's message.
We currently do not offer seaming services for quilt backs but are considering it for the future. Please seam your quilt back before sending it in, ensuring that the finished backing is square and at least 4" larger than your quilt on all sides.
We can quilt most types of projects, including T-shirt quilts, quilts made from ties, or quilts made from non-cotton fabrics. We once quilted some heavy upholstery fabric for a custom furniture maker. That was an adventure! Results may vary, depending on the fabrics involved. We cannot quilt projects that have three-dimensional elements such as couching, zippers, or buttons, as there is not enough clearance to work around these items. If you're considering having an unusual project quilted, please be sure to book a free quilt consultation to discuss all the options.
There is no such thing as truly invisible thread, but we do offer MonoPoly Clear and MonoPoly Smoke thread as options for your quilt. MonoPoly is a reduced-sheen monofilament that is 100% polyester. Nylon monofilament threads have very low heat resistance, turn yellow over time, and can become brittle, leading to more and more thread breaks over time. MonoPoly does not have these issues. MonoPoly is .004" (.1mm) in diameter, a very fine (90 denier) thread. A premium thread charge per square inch applies to quilts completed with MonoPoly thread.
We love minky's luxurious warm feeling on a finished quilt, so yes, we're happy to work with minky backing! Unlike standard woven cotton quilt fabric, minky is a knit. This means that it has some special considerations when loading it onto the longarm. We always load with the minky's selvedge perpendicular to the longarm bars. This is so the knit fabric doesn't stretch too much during quilting and then spring back to it's relaxed state after it's unloaded. That results in a wrinkled mess on the top side of the quilt. If you have questions about using minky fabric as your backing, just let us know.
